Why would the US let Louisiana gain control over navigation to its whole Mississippi River system?

Louisiana independence is not a great threat to states that use the Mississippi River system, as traffic does not need to go through Louisiana, since an alternate path through Alabama was formed with the construction of the Tenn-Tom canal in 1984.

As this article explains, if Louisiana announces our independence, the states of the Mississippi River watershed would almost certainly follow Louisiana out of the Union to form a federation of mid-American states anyway, so they would still have access to the sea through allied states (through Louisiana).
